Organizational Context

Intern, Disaster Preparedness:

  • Compilation and contextualization of National Disaster Response Team curriculum for the Asia Pacific region.

Job Purpose

The intern is expected to have a hands-on learning through on-the-job training alongside the Operations Manager of Malaysia as well as the Asia Pacific National Society Preparedness Coordinator and Surge Coordinator in improving the National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) curriculum for the region.

The intern will have the following learning objectives:

  • Learn and understand the IFRC emergency response system
  • Contextualizing global standards to practical regional standards that can be applied by local users
  • Communication and coordination with people from different countries and cultures all over Asia Pacific
  • Systemization of data and improved use of data
  • Human resource management and understanding human resource needs in operations
  • Facilitation and logistical arrangement for training for a diverse group of participants

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1.Support in contextualizing the National Response Team (NRT) Common Standards to Asia Pacific, considering regional specificities

  • Identifying mandatory and optional courses within the standardized curriculum
  • Drafting and supporting the finalization of guidance document for using the standardized and contextualized curriculum
  • Compiling feedback from technical/sectoral leads on the standardized curriculum and updating documents accordingly

2.Supporting Malaysian Red Crescent Society in piloting the NDRT Common Standards

  • Supporting MRCS in adapting their NDRT curriculum to align with the standardized curriculum
  • Providing facilitation support to MRCS during NDRT
  • Supporting the collection of learnings from MRCS NDRT through surveys and evaluations post-training

Education

Required

Relevant university education in Human resources, Pedagogy, Social Sciences, disaster management or an equivalent of qualifying experience managing emergency deployments and trainings

Preferred

Certification, training, or professional qualification in Project Management, Data Management

Experience

Required

  • Experience managing events (trainings, meetings, etc.).
  • Experience delivering trainings, including preparation of methodologies, presentations, training curricula or similar.

Preferred

  • Experience of working for the Red Cross / Red Crescent or other humanitarian organization.
  • Experience managing databases for human resources.
  • Experience in facilitating and supporting staff during travels/deployments/trainings.

Languages

  • Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic)
