The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB/the Bank) is seeking to recruit an Intern, Office of Risk Management. The successful candidate will be based at CDB’s headquarters in St. Michael, Barbados.
THE DEPARTMENT
ORM oversees business line implementation of risk management measures and ensures compliance to board-approved risk limits. ORM owns the risk management framework of CDB and associated policies and oversees their implementation. The first line units are responsible for managing risks they create, building and maintaining controls and mitigants to stay within CDB’s desired risk appetite, and conducting individual risk assessments within their areas.
To accomplish this, ORM:
- Facilitates the implementation of a sound risk management framework throughout the institution and has responsibility for further identifying, monitoring, analyzing, measuring, and reporting on risks and forming a holistic view on all risks on an individual and consolidated basis.
- Challenges and assists in the implementation of risk management measures by the business lines in order to ensure that the process and controls in place at the first line are properly designed and effective.
- Monitors observance of general regulatory (e.g. Credit Rating Agencies) requirements and compliance with risk-related policies, provides advice on risk management compliance and risk workforce, and establishes policies and processes to manage and to ensure risk compliance ; and
- Maintains independence of risk management. Within a commonly defined framework, where segregation of duties is guaranteed, the ORM is independent from all first line department, divisions and units. When participating in the various committees of the Bank, ORM does not delegate its responsibilities.
THE ROLE
The intern’s role and overall tasks can be summarized as follows:
- Sovereign, Non-Sovereign Investment and Special Projects support to ORM Credit Risk Team
- Data analysis/studies/research under the supervision of the Strategic Risk Team SupervisoR
- Policy/procedures/manuals drafting support to ORM, under CRO’s supervision.
- Support in preparation of training and other presentations for Senior Officer and CRO
REPORTING REQUIREMENTS
The Intern will be mentored by Senior Risk Officer/Manager under the supervision of the CRO.
EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES
- Enrolled in a University Degree in a relevant field of study, such as accounting, finance, economics, business administration or statistics or recently graduated (not more than 12 months).
- An interest in developing a career in development finance and risk management
- Understanding of the ethical and integrity considerations related to Multilateral Institutions
COMPETENCIES
The intern should possess:
- The ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
- The ability to work harmoniously and effectively within a small team and to manage competing assignments
This assignment will be carried out over a 3-month period, commencing in June 2024.
